Tangaroa Trips - Avon Gorge
A three hour excursion around the floating harbour, locking out into the River Avon and exploring the Avon Gorge as far as the M5 Avonmouth Bridge. The city bridges swing to let us pass into the lock. You can see the old Campbells Pleasure Steamer pier on the right as we leave the lock and pass under Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge. From the Gorge we see Durdham Downs and Leigh Woods. We then pass the site of the Roman port of Abona, the Powder House and the village of Pill. We catch a glimpse of the busy port of Avonmouth before returning up river to lock into Bristol just before high tide. There is usually plenty of widlife to see - roe deer on the foreshore at Leigh Woods, peregrine falcons from the Downs and redshank, greenshank and oystercatchers feeding on the worm-rich Avon mud. There are also herons, cormorants, sandpipers..... Tea and coffee are included in the price
